Meet Kelly
My approach is editorial and documentary, but more than anything, it’s human.
I’m a second-generation photographer, and I learned this work on film: slowly, deliberately, and with a healthy respect for the fact that some moments only happen once.
I love weddings because they contain everything. Beauty, nerves, family history, impeccable clothing, weird little traditions, champagne, tears, chaos, and at least one person doing something completely unhinged on the dance floor.
I’ll tell you when the light is better three feet to the left. I’ll fix the piece of hair stuck to your lip. I’ll help you slow down when the day starts moving too quickly. Then I’ll disappear into the room and photograph what happens when no one is thinking about being photographed.
You’ll spend more time with me on your wedding day than almost anyone else. You should trust my eye, obviously. But you should also feel comfortable with me beside you through the nerves, the family dynamics, the schedule changes, and the increasingly chaotic dance floor.
I take the photographs seriously. I don’t believe the experience has to feel serious.
Based in Lake Tahoe in Northern California, I photograph weddings everywhere.
My philosophy
A wedding is not a production created for photographs. It is a living record of who you are, who showed up for you, and what happened when everyone you love occupied the same place for one remarkable stretch of time.
The photographs that stay with me are rarely the most obvious ones. They’re your father watching from across the room. Your best friend crouched under your dress with a fistful of fabric. The expression that passes over your face immediately before you walk down the aisle. The dress becoming slightly less pristine as the party gets better.
I move between quiet documentation and considered direction, creating photographs that feel composed without feeling controlled. I want the beauty, certainly. But I also want the humor, the tension, the tenderness, and the wonderfully imperfect evidence that real people were there.
What I notice
Beautiful light, especially when it arrives unexpectedly.
Clothing with movement and a point of view.
The architecture of a place.
The person crying before anyone else realizes they’re crying.
The strange, funny things families do when they’re overwhelmed.
The few quiet minutes before everything begins.
Champagne towers becoming structurally questionable.
A dance floor that has completely abandoned dignity.
And all the small gestures you won’t know happened until you see the photographs.
What it feels like to work together
You should be able to live inside your wedding rather than spend it performing for a camera.
I’ll know the timeline, the people who matter, and the photographs you care about. I’ll give direction clearly when it’s useful, keep things moving without making the day feel managed, and make room for the moments no timeline could predict.
Every wedding is photographed on film and digital. Film keeps me instinctive and honest. Digital gives me the freedom to follow everything unfolding around it. Together, they create something polished but still alive.
The result should look beautiful now and still feel true decades from now. Not a perfect performance. A record of the people you love, having the absolute time of their lives.
Let the record show: we were alive.
